KPNHA COMMUNITY FUNDED PROJECTS

The KPNHA supports community projects focused on environmental protection and environmental education. The list below identifies some of the projects that have been funded in recent years. To apply for such funding, submit a short proposal, describing the project and the cost estimates, to any member of the KPNHA Board of Directors, or send it to the Business Manager, KPNHA, P. O. Box 1130, Kilauea HI 96754.
 
School Bus for Field Trips
Annual cash donations to DOE to support costs of field trips to Kauai National Wildlife Refuges for any school on Kauai 1998-2000.
Art at Kilauea Point
Artist Patrick Ching is brought to the refuge each year to teach art to children attending the annual Christmas Crafts Fair and during National Wildlife Refuge Week.
Princeville Library
Donation of a large collection of new books from our gift shop to the library for its opening.
Kilauea School Nature Center
Annual cash donations for national "Make a Difference Day" programs at Kilauea School 1998 - 2000.
Family Ocean Fair
Annual cash donations for fair operations 1998 - 2000.
Federal Children's Duck Stamp Design Contest
Donations from Gift Shop stock for awards.
Christmas Crafts Fair
KPNHA sponsors this fair each year for local crafts persons working in natural materials and/or representing wildlife.
Ohia Productions Video
Cash donation to help support the production of "Deep Blue Sea" to be given to schools throughout Hawaii.
Hawaii Environmental Education Association
Cash support for staffing, the development of a strategic plan, and their annual meetings.
Conservation Council for Hawaii
Cash support for development and distribution of environmental poster.
Kauai Historical Society
Organizational member.
Hanalei School Greenhouse
Cash donations for purchase of supplies to build a greenhouse for student projects.
Student T-shirt Design Contest
KPNHA ran a contest among school children to commemorate National Wildlife Refuge Week. The winning artist, their class and teacher each received a free t-shirt with that student's design and a trip to Kilauea Point NWR.
KPNHA Community Evening lecture series
Cash support to provide travel and supplies for this lecture series (See separate web page)
Haraguchi Rice Mill Foundation
Cash support for staff to get environmental education program going.
National Association of Interpreters
Cash donation to help sponsor their national meeting in Hawaii.
